THE LAURA JEAN MILGRAM MEMORIAL VIOLA SCHOLARSHIP
Laura Jean Milgram was an accomplished violist who overcame many challenges. She had a scholarship to attend the Saratoga Performing Arts Center to study with the Philadelphia Orchestra. She also had a scholarship to study under the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Tanglewood in its Young Artists Program. Laura attended Eastman School of Music in Rochester and was a graduate of Syracuse University, where she received a fellowship. She played viola as a fellow with the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra for two years. Laura's music was silenced on June 5, 1990 when she lost her battle with cancer. She was only 28 years old. Recently, I was gifted Laura's considerable collection of viola music. To express my deep appreciation for this gift, I am providing the Laura Jean Milgram Memorial Viola Scholarship to a student who is deserving of viola lessons. Interested students should get a letter of recommendation from their orchestra teacher or (if no program exists in their school) another teacher. Please email the letter to [email protected]. |
