The purpose of this policy is to enhance the lesson experience and to provide an understanding between teacher, student, and parent.
Tuition
Private Lessons: Tuition is based on enrollment--NOT attendance. Tuition for private lessons is $72 per month (30-45 min lesson per week). If paying by check, make payable to Jennifer Sova. Tuition is due at the first lesson of the month. A $5 late fee will be charged if tuition is not paid on time. Lessons are once per week and usually four lessons per month. While occasionally it's five or three, it usually averages four.
I teach lessons while caring for my children. In the past, my students and their families have been very understanding since my husband is usually working. I have built time in between lessons to take care of their needs.
Group Lessons: I will be offering FREE group classes throughout the year for interested students where we will have fun playing Suzuki, holiday music, fiddling, and summer pops!
I am always happy to waive tuition in exchange for qualified piano accompanists for my students!!
Attendance and Make-up Policy
My experience is that progress is not great with occasional lessons; thus, I reserve my time for students who can come regularly because my studio time is limited. Students are expected to take lessons throughout the year. (Keep in mind that most private teachers are charging $30 per half-hour lesson, while I am only charging $18.)
Be sure to arrive to your lesson on time or a little early. Please call if you are running late, and always call if you cannot make a lesson.
If you cannot make a scheduled lesson, call me (preferrably 24 hours in advance). It is not necessary to provide a reason, but please do not fail to call. Failing to do this consistently will result in dismissal from the studio.
Students will be charged for any missed lesson unless the lesson was cancelled by the teacher. If I cancel a lesson, I will provide a make-up lesson. I am happy to provide your child with a make-up lesson if you give me 24 hours notice about an absence.
Materials
Private Lessons:
Student will study several books, which will cover scales, etudes, shifting studies, and repetoire, including:
Carl Flesh Scale System (publisher: Carl Fischer)
Wohlfahrt Foundation Studies books I & II (publisher: Carl Fischer)
Harvey Whistler: Introducing the Positions vol. I & II (publisher: Rubank)
Suzuki
Solos for Young Violinists/Violists by Barbara Barber (publisher: Alfred Music)
Students may also choose to study out of supplemental books, including but not limited to:
Fiddlers Philharmonic (publisher: Alfred Music)
Christmas Kaleidoscope (publisher: Neil A. Kjos Music Company)
Practicing
I expect students to be carefully prepared each week. However, if you have not been able to practice, you should still come to your lesson.
Parents are responsible for scheduling and supervising consistent practice times at home. Learning how to practice effectively takes time and a lot of encouragement. Proper practicing takes a lot of hard work, discipline, and patience, so your child deserves any rewards your family feels comfortable with.
Parent support is absolutely essential for your child's success. Parents are always welcome at any time to attend lessons.
Recitals
Recitals will be held generally three times a year. Attendence is expected as public performance gives students an incentive to polish their pieces.
There will be a recital fee per recital, TBD. It will cover the cost of hiring a piano accompanist and venue fees.
